Behind the Bloom: The Process of Pressed Flower Resin

At Wildly Inspired, each floral resin piece begins long before the resin is ever poured. It starts with a bloom - a real flower, once fresh and vibrant, now carefully preserved to last forever. These aren’t just pretty decorations; they’re pieces of nature, frozen in time.

So how exactly does a delicate flower end up beautifully encased in crystal-clear resin? Let’s take you behind the scenes of our process.

Step 1: Choosing the Right Flowers

Not all flowers are created equal - at least not when it comes to pressing. We select blooms that press well and hold their shape and colour over time. Some of our favorites include:

  • Daisies

  • Pansies

  • Baby’s breath

  • Ferns

  • Hydrangeas

  • Roses (pressed in petals)

We either grow these ourselves, forage ethically, or source them from local flower markets. Sustainability matters to us, and we aim to use what’s seasonal and available - often re-purposing leftover blooms from weddings or special events.

Step 2: Pressing and Drying

Once picked, the flowers are pressed using traditional methods - sandwiched between sheets of parchment and placed in heavy books or flower presses. This part takes 1–3 weeks, depending on the flower type and moisture level.

The goal is to flatten the bloom without losing its color. Some fade gently (which we love), while others retain their bold hues. Each result is different - just like nature intended.

Tip: If you're preserving your own flowers, blot them gently before pressing to remove excess moisture and avoid browning.

Step 3: Design Planning

Once dried, the flowers are extremely delicate - almost like tissue paper. This is where the creativity begins.

We arrange the pressed flowers into designs, either symmetrically for a classic look or in more whimsical, organic patterns. Each layout is thoughtfully composed, and no two designs are ever exactly the same.

Step 4: Pouring the Resin

We mix high-quality, crystal-clear epoxy resin and pour it in layers - embedding the flowers between pours to create depth and preserve the delicate details.

Timing and patience are key here. The resin must cure for hours (or days), and there’s no rushing it. Bubbles are carefully removed, edges are smoothed, and finishes are polished all by hand.

The Final Result: Nature, Frozen in Time

What you get is a piece of art that captures a fleeting moment, whether it’s a wildflower you picked on a summer walk or a petal from your wedding bouquet.

Pressed flower resin is more than just a trend; it's a celebration of nature’s delicate beauty, preserved in a form that lasts for years to come.
